7 Card Stud Poker

Söndag 08 Mars, Haylie Kramer

aceSeven Card Stud Poker, like other variations of stud poker, starts with an ante. An ante is somewhat of a buy-in, as it is a mandatory wager that all players must make to participate in a hand. Antes differ from blinds because they do not contribute to any future player bets.

Seven Card Stud Poker starts out with a two-card deal face down to each player, followed by a third card, dealt face down. In 7 Card Stud Poker, this third card is called the “door card” and is dealt face up showing on the table. This card indicates who will start the action. The player with the lowest showing door card puts up the bring in bet. This bet represents a part of the whole bet and serves the purpose to stimulate the action of the hand.

Playing 7 Card Stud

In 7 Card Stud Poker, the action follows the bring in clockwise around the circle. When all bets are in, the bring-in position can complete his bet, raise the pot, or fold, but he will most likely not fold because he has stakes in the pot. This first deal and bet around the table is called 3rd street in 7 Card Stud, as three of the seven cards have already been dealt.

Following the 3rd street round in 7 Card Stud, the dealer will burn one card and deal out one more card for each player. These cards are dealt face up, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer. This round in 7 Card Stud is called 4th street and the betting round starts differently this time. Instead of the player with the lowest ranked card showing initiating the bet, the player with the highest ranking card combination showing wagers first. When two players have equally ranked hands, the player sitting closer to the dealer acts first. The player in the action must call, raise, or fold. In 7 Card Stud Poker, from this point forward, betting is allowed at the highest limit set for a game.

Once another betting round is complete, another card is burned, and another one card is dealt to each player face up. This process happens twice, until each player has two concealed cards and four showing cards on the table. In 7 Card Stud Poker, these rounds are called 5th and 6th street.
The final round is referred to as 7th street. After a card is burned, one final card is dealt to each player, face down (instead of face up like the previous three cards).  The last betting round ensues and the showdown takes places. The player with the best five-card poker hands wins a 7 Card Stud Poker game.
