Gustav Hansen was born February 1974 in Copenhagen, Denmark. His first introduction to poker was at summer camp, where he played with his fellow campers for nickels and dimes. After moving to the US, and becoming a regular at the backgammon and gin rummy rooms in New York, he met Huckleberry Seed, who convinced him to turn a more serious eye towards poker. Gus played his first WSOP in 1996, although he admits that, at the time, he didn’t know enough about the game to have a chance of winning. Shortly thereafter he began studying Hold‘Em, and eventually developed an unconventional yet highly effective style that still leaves the top players today guessing and frequently moaning about the huge pots he wins from them. Gus has a reputation for losing huge chunks of dough while betting on sports, but with his impressive tournament tally and a number of successful business ventures, it‘s likely he‘ll continue to make an impression on the poker world for years to come.
